LE TERTRE, SOUDAN  

We are approx 300k from the ferry port of Cherbourg and 150k from St Malo see www.brittanyferries.com. The nearest airports are in NANTES and RENNES see www.ryanair.com (both are approx. 1 hours drive away).

Le Tertre ('the mound') is a small hamlet 4km from Soudan.  It is set in rural surroundings with beautiful views. The neighbouring fields have cows, sheep and goats as well as agricultural crops. It is a very peaceful area with the occasional sound of animals and tractors!

It is an ideal location  for walking and cycling.

Soudan has a small supermarket, butcher, 2 bakers, restaurant, 2 bars and a bar/tobacconist. There is also a hairdressers and a well stocked chemists.

There are lakes for fishing, a permit can be purchased locally.

This is a typical French region and the  residents are extremely friendly and very community spirited.

CHATEAUBRIANT

Just 6km from Le Tertre, the historic town of Chateaubriant offers a Wednesday market, Chateau and a huge variety of hypermarkets, shops, restaurants, bars and leisure activities (including a large indoor swimming pool).

It also boasts:

 - many historical buildings (including the Chateau)

 - glass theatre

 - cinema (showing selected films in English)

 - tenpin bowling (with bar and pool table) 

 - mini-golf

 - horse racing (trotting)
